Why You Need a Personal Touch to Home Décor

Published On May 24, 2022 | By Danny White | Home Improvement

Have you ever felt out of place in your own home? It could be that it just doesn’t look or feel like anything that matters to you. Perhaps you had an interior decorator design your home or maybe you just felt that you should follow all the current trends when a given room needed a bit of TLC. Fortunately, today’s interior design calls for a personal touch to home décor, and that is perfectly fine by you. Here is what they found when doing a 180 from previous trends in home décor.

A Home Is a Reflection of the People Living There

Once you’ve added those personal touches to any room, you will find that you begin to relax and feel at home! It doesn’t mean that you need to throw the baby out with the bath water, but at least you can carefully assess what it is about a room that doesn’t feel quite right and go from there.

A good example of a personal touch in decor would be last year when your mother-in-law gave you a list of Catholic gift ideas at Christmas. She wanted a religious-themed painting, which she mentioned often, but never came right out and asked for one. Upon entering a room with one hung in a visible space, anyone would know that the inhabitant was probably a devout Catholic.

A Place to Keep Important Memories Visible

There is no end to the way you can use personal items that carry a special meaning within your décor scheme. Maybe you want to frame your son’s High School Diploma in which he was the Valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA or maybe you want a photo collage of family vacations. Then, there’s that acceptance letter into Harvard Medical School that your daughter was so proud of. Do you have a picture of your wedding day that shows a happy young couple, still happy after all these years?

Added Layers of Comfort

The important point is that all those bits of personal décor add layers of comfort for you and anyone who lives in the home. There really is nothing quite as disconcerting as walking into a room where you feel out of place. Also, there is no room that should be left out of this interior design theme. From the kitchen that proudly boasts your great-grandmother’s recipe card file, every room has something to say about the people who live there. There are always going to be personal items you can use and there is always going to be something to make you feel at home. Isn’t that an odd thing to say? Unfortunately, there are times when the interior design of your house can have you feeling like you are the one out of place.

As they say, home is where the heart is, so put a little heart into your home! Current interior designers are beginning to set the trend of personal home décor, so know that you are not alone in wanting to feel at home when you really are already at home!
